Early summer awakening (Yamakoshi's rice terraces and ponds) Niigata
In the Yamakoshi area of Nagaoka City, there are many terraced ponds and terraced fields because they have developed a mountainous area and used it as farmland.
Yamakoshi area was selected on June 12, 2003 by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as an important area of cultural landscape related to agriculture, forestry and fisheries. In 2017, it was also certified as Japan's Agricultural Heritage No. 1 as a "rice farming and carp raising system utilizing the blessings of snow."
At this time when the rice planting was over, the morning light reflected in water mirror was very fantastic.
