Stairway to another world Okinawa
Ndokubiab is located in the forest about 1.5km southwest of Kanamaraab. The depth is about 22m, and there are two cave entrances. The large cave entrance is 3m wide and 25m long, and can be accessed from the northeast side by stairs. If you go down the stairs to the bottom of the cave, you will find a wide space with icicle stones growing on the right side, and the floor is a mixture of gravel, soil, and humus, with aerial roots and tree roots hanging down to the bottom.
“Nudokubiabu” means “Nudokubi” in the dialect of the Miyako region, and “Abu” means cave or pit.
It is also confirmed that the Japanese military used it as an air-raid shelter because it was difficult to find.
In the depths of the cave extending southwest from the entrance, there is also the remains of a cooking stove that the Japanese army used during the war.
It is also certified as a historic site designated by Miyakojima City.
